ARCH has responded to the Government consultation paper on
proposals for a new regulatory system for high rise
buildings.
The consultation paper "Building a safer future" set out how
the Government plan to overhaul the regulatory system for high rise
residential buildings through:
- clearer responsibilities for those building or managing these
buildings;
- a stronger voice in the system and better information for
residents;
- greater oversight by regulators; and
- tougher enforcement when things go wrong.
The closing date for responses to the consultation paper was 31
July 2019.

We would like to thank those ARCH member councils that submitted
comments to help in form the ARCH response. The Housing
Ministry have indicated that they wish to continue dialogue with
the sector on the proposals before bringing forward the necessary
legislation and we ask that if ARCH member councils have submitted
their own responses to the consultation paper, if you have not
already done so please copy your response to ARCH Policy Adviser
