The' See the Person' campaign, led by a
committee of tenants from around the country and chaired by ARCH
Tenant Group member Martyn Lund, has worked with the
Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) to publish a guide to tackling
stigma in social housing for housing professionals, providers and
contractors.
The 'See the Person' Campaign has worked with
journalists, politicians and housing providers to tackle the unfair
and unhelpful stigma that has grown around social
housing.
The campaign has published research showing
that around 9 out of 10 people who live in social housing have
faced negative stereotypes and stigma at some point and with the
National Union of Journalists (NUJ), it has previously
published "A Fair Press for
Tenants", challenging people who work in the media to
reduce the use of stereotypes.
The campaign has recently worked with CIH to
launch a new guide for housing professionals. Informed by the
experiences of people who live in social housing, this new guide
entitled "It's not Okay" challenges those who work in social
housing "to reflect regularly on why they're working for a housing
organisation." It is a call to action - to be part of the solution,
not part of the problem of the stigma that tenants in social
housing face.
This new guide is packed with positive
examples of tenants and housing providers working together to
tackle stigma and can be downloaded for free from the 'See the
Person' website.
