Following the appointment of Sajid Javid as
Home Secretary the new Secretary of State for Housing, James
Brokenshire, has written to Grenfell residents to reassure them of
his support.
James Brokenshire, MP for Old Bexley &
Sidcup was appointed Secretary of State for Housing, Communities
& Local Government on 30 April and in a press release following
his appointment he said:
"I am determined to get Britain building the homes our country
needs so everyone can afford a place to call their own.
One of my top priorities is going to be ensuring everyone
affected by the Grenfell Tower fire gets the support they need and
we learn lessons from the tragedy so something like this can never
happen again.
As the son of a former chief executive of a
council local government is in the blood for me. So I look forward
to working with councils across the country by supporting them to
deliver quality public services and build strong integrated
communities."
One of his first actions as the new Secretary of State has been
to write to Grenfell residents to assure them of
his continued support, notwithstanding the fact that both the
former Housing Secretary Sajid Javid and the former Housing
Minister Alok Sharma are no longer in the Ministry of Housing,
Communities & Local Government.
