Affordable Housing in England – House of Commons Library Briefing 26/07/2024

For the many newly elected MPs, the House of Commons Library has published a useful briefing on Affordable Housing in England. It provides definitions of the various types of affordable housing and shows that the proportion of housing for affordable or social rent has fallen from around 20% in 2000 to 16% in 2023, while demand for it has risen. It also summarises how affordable housing is funded, and points to the delivery challenges faced by local authorities and housing associations in expanding affordable supply.
