ARCH Response to consultation on provision of information on tenants’ rights 24/11/2023 Labelled as Consultation, Legislation, Regulation

ARCH has responded to a consultation held by DLUHC on a new direction to the Regulator of Social Housing which would require social landlords to provide specified information to tenants on their rights, including their rights to complain. ARCH's response does not object to the principle of providing such information, although a formal direction to the regulator is arguably unnecessary since the regulator already has adequate powers to require this information to be provided. However, important changes to tenants' rights are expected soon, including Awaab's Law and an updated Decent Homes Standard. ARCH argues that, to avoid the confusion and additional cost that would arise if landlords had to provide information on rights twice within a period probably of less than a year, implementation should be delayed until these changes have been introduced. The full response is here.
