The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, has announced
that the government will publish its Autumn Budget on Wednesday 22
November 2017.
The Autumn Budget sets out the government's plans for the
economy based on the latest forecasts from the Office for Budget
Responsibility (OBR).
Following the Chancellor's announcement at Autumn Statement
2016, there will now only be one fiscal event in each year, held in the
Autumn. From 2018 there will be a Spring Statement, responding to
the forecast from the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR), but no
major fiscal event.
The Housing Sector will be watching carefully to see if the
Autumn Budget 2017 contains any announcements on housing policy
& spending including any additional resources for social &
affordable rented housing and proposals set out in the Housing
White Paper including Bespoke Housing Deals, social rent policy
post 2020, and the building of Fixed Term Council Housing mentioned in the
Conservative Party General Election Manifesto.
The sector is also expecting some announcements on the future of
the High Value Asset Levy and sale of higher value council housing
introduced by the Housing & Planning Act 2016 but not yet
implemented following the decision of previous Housing Minister
Gavin Barwell to defer introduction of the HVA Levy until after
April 2018.
