In January the Government consulted on
plans to reform the rules for allocating council housing, as
reported in
ARCH Bulletin 229. It proposed to reform council housing
allocations policy by restricting allocations to applicants with a
UK connection, a minimum 2-year local connection and an income
below a threshold to be defined. The consultation paper also
proposed new grounds for evicting existing tenants convicted of
terrorism offences or anti-social behaviour.
On 2 September the new Government announced that it will not be
taking these proposals forward. The full response to the
