The Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 (the Act) provides a
statutory footing for the Housing Ombudsman's Complaints Handling
Code (the Code) and places a duty on the Ombudsman Service (HOS) to
monitor compliance with the Code. As a result, the Ombudsman is consulting on:
- The Code and whether any further improvements can be made to
this.
- Its outline proposals for monitoring compliance and whether
these are transparent, proportionate and fair.
The HOS and Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO)
have decided to adopt the Code jointly to achieve a more consistent
experience of complaint handling across housing and other key local
services.
No major changes are proposed to the Code, but there are
implications for the time residents will have to bring
complaints.
The consultation closes on 23 November.
