Latest figures from MHCLG show
the number of new homes completed by developers in the year ending
June 2019 to be the highest number built in the last 11 years but
the number of new council homes built is less than a quarter of the
council homes sold under the Right to Buy.
The figures, published on 3 October 2019 show a total of 173,660
new homes of all tenures were built and completed on site in
England in the 12 month period ending June 2019 - this represents
an 8% increase compared with the previous year.
However, the total number of new homes started on site in the
same period was 164,640 - a 1% decrease compared to the previous
year.
Completions of new homes by local authorities in the year ending
June 2019 was 2,320 compared to 2,310 in the previous year to June
2018. This represents less than a quarter of the 10,054 council homes sold under the Right to Buy
in the year to June 2019.
