Members of the ARCH Tenants' Group have met to finalise the
programme for the 2019 ARCH Tenant Conference, to be held in
Bridlington on 3 October 2019.
This year marks the centenary of the Addison Act and 100 years of council
housing and the ARCH Tenant Conference will celebrate
the centenary by taking a look at what a couple of our member
councils and their tenants are doing to mark the occasion, as well
as looking forward to the Government's promise of "a new deal for
social housing" promised in the Social Housing Green Paper.
The ARCH Tenant Conference is organised by tenants for tenants
and members of the ARCH Tenants' Group have come together to
finalise this year's conference programme.
With the Government shortly expected to announce the next steps
following the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower in 2017 and the
consultation in 2018 on its proposals set out in the Social Housing
Green Paper, this year's ARCH Tenant Conference will focus on
keeping your home safe.
With a range of key speakers from across the sector we will be
looking at topics including fire safety, gas safety and electrical
safety in the home as well as what tenants want to see included in
the next generation of decent homes and what the new system of
complaints and consumer redress in social housing might look
like.
This year's event is to be held at Bridlington Spa Entertainment & Conference
Centre in the seaside town of Bridlington in the East
Riding of Yorkshire district.
Our 2019 Tenants' Conference will again include the ARCH
Community Champion Award. This is a special ARCH award to recognise
the dedication, willingness, inspiration and devotion that our
tenants freely give to others and it is hoped that this can
motivate others or give them examples of things that they can do in
their own community.
The deadline for submitting entries for the Award is Friday 30
August 2019. To request an entry form please email Tina Reid tina.reid@housemark.co.uk.
Attendance at the conference will be free for up to five
delegates from each ARCH member council and Bridlington has a good
range of inexpensive hotels and B&Bs if delegates wish to stay
over.
The ARCH Tenants' Group will be finalising details of the
conference programme in the next few weeks and details of how to
book your place at this event will be published in the next edition
of the ARCH Bulletin. In the meantime, save the date of 3 October
in your diary.
